This is a waste of time because the striker plate is still held firmly by 3 screws you can t get to. Move the latch to the left or right as needed. Remove the lock body. The pella contact suggested removing the screw cover strip on the latch side and removing the 5 screws holding the latch side trim.

Use the screwdriver to chisel out any wood in the frame that may prevent the door from latching. If either does not operate when the door is open the hardware needs to be replaced. Use pencil to mark on strike plate location of deadbolt and spring latch. If one or both legs are damaged or bent the screw cover strips need to be replaced. Twist the hinge rail screws a quarter turn each counterclockwise using a flat screwdriver. Using an allen key loosen the set screw and remove the interior door handle. Replace the screws and tighten.

Had to replace this hardware. The hinge rail runs vertically along the hinge side of the door. Once the door is open operate the handle and turn the deadbolt. Fit the straight outer leg into the mounting rail first and then snap in the inner leg which may have a hook.

Pretty scary thinking that storm door wouldn t open properly in case of emergency. This will loosen the tension on the deadbolt allowing it to retract and the door to open.
