Most well water is pumped out of the ground automatically using a submersible pump or a jet pump that sits on top of the ground and draws water out of the ground to create water pressure for the home. Once it is turned on a pressure switch monitors the water pressure and turns the pump on automatically when the pressure gets too low. Most private home well systems operate between 30 pounds per square inch psi and 50 psi. The pressure then will rapidly drop in the pipes to the on pressure and the pump starts again.
