Mark this spot with a pencil and then repeat this process on the wall to the left of the garage door. Check the fit before installing a new door and enlarge the opening as necessary. The opening should be two inches wider than the door frame and about an inch taller in height. Determine how tall and how wide you want the doorway to be.

Leew2 18 mar 2011. Move the stud finder around until you find the stud in the wall that is nearest to the garage door. Use chalk to mark the areas where you want to cut through the brick. Run a stud finder across the wall perpendicular to the garage door on the right.

When you cut the doorway you may end up with voids where you cut the bricks especially with frogged bricks laid frog down. Once you are satisfied with the fit of the door remove it and apply several thick beads of silicone caulk to the bottom. However the door frame should cover up any inperfections. Before you make your first cut double check the measurements.

Add another set of marks across the top of the frame to represent a steel lintel that will support the load above the door. Caulk underneath the spots where the bottom of the jamb and brick moulding will be.
